Enjoyed Borderlands 1 and 2 and the dark-humor surrounding the characters of Pandora? Wanted to dive deeper into the back stories into some of surreal individuals whom you may or may not have removed the faces of? Well, at SXSW, Telltale Games and Gearbox Software banded together to announce their new episodic game Tales from the Borderlands. Attendees had the chance to attend a panel where they could hear about the latest project from the unlikely duo. Missed the announcement? See the SXSW panel for yourself here!
Telltale Games and Gearbox Software aims to pick from the farm of uniquely dark backgrounds of the characters who we strangely grown to love and/or laugh at. Telltale Games has been known to present moral choices and aspects to their products. Where that plays a part in Pandora is now a focus on how you apply your greed. You have to stab people in the back and toss morality out of the window to stay alive in the gritty world where survival is the only law. While you’re rewarded for cheating and swindling, there are consequences that you will have to deal with.
You play two separate protagonists in Tales from the Borderlands and take turns swindling individually as you develop one overarching story – a story from two views on the same series of events. The two characters are Rhys, a male character that works for Hyperion and upholds Handsome Jack beliefs and Fiona, a female sort of con artist that just focuses on herself staying alive. Each character has their own individual agendas that will be more fleshed out in the future. Of course, the crazy action and weaponry of the franchise will still be present. Rhys will be the techie office-type of the two, sporting a robotic arm and hacking abilities to wreck havoc. Meanwhile not as much was said about Fiona other than her being a little more rough around the edges while being able to using her fast-talking and swindling to get out of sticky situations.
The number of episodes has not been decided yet, but the two companies promised that will happen soon.
