HE’S ENDURED TUMULTUOUS CHILDHOOD FAME, GRIPPING SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MORE BLOODY ENCOUNTERS THAN ASH WILLIAMS. SEEMINGLY MORE MACHINE THAN MORTAL, DANNY BONADUCE CHATS WITH US AND GIVES SOME INSIGHT INTO THE MAN BEHIND THE MAYHEM
What was tougher, being a former child star or a former reality star?
Being a former reality star. Being a former child star wasn’t rough on me at all. I mean being a former child star was rough on me in a different way. But the reality show did me so much damage, people literally thought that I had lost my mind completely and that I was completely impaired, couldn’t possibly work anymore. When I got home from the last day of filming, I thought to myself, “Ok, gotta fix the career, what do I do?”
Who or what is capable of “Breaking” Bonaduce?
Me, and only me.
As a child star, what do you think of Lindsay Lohan?
I don’t care in any way, shape or form. I care about my fellow man as a whole, not as necessarily about Lindsay Lohan.
What do you think of her media-whore father?
There was a knock on my door one day and I open it and there’s this guy with a big grin on his face. I give out my address on the radio all the time, I don’t care if people know where I live. You’re welcome to come by. This guy came with his arms open like “buuudddy!” so I kinda faked it, like “heeeeeey,” and we gave each other that bro hug thing and so he goes, “Hi, I’m Lindsay Lohan’s dad. Do you want to talk to me about celebrity boxing?” And I said, “Did you wanna box with me?” and he said “yeah” and I said, “well then you need to go become a celebrity first.”
Do you see any parallels between Michael Lohan and your own father?
None. My father, and don’t get me wrong, I liked him less than I like Michael Lohan, just for different reasons. My father was an absolute genius, but he would have none of this.
Would you step back into the boxing ring again?
I’d step up to Lohan if he came up with legitimate money. I am not a non-profit organization. Besides, I’m undefeated and my last fight was Jose Canseco, I’m 5 foot 6, he’s 6 foot 6, I fought him at 165, he weighed in at 265 and I beat Canseco two out of three rounds. Where do you go from there? All I could do is lose the title? He’s so big, when you see the fight, it’s like he was fighting a kid!
