Rivals Come in Many Forms! SteelSeries Rival 500 Gaming Mouse Review

SteelSeries has made their name known in the gaming atmosphere with their top-of-the-line peripherals. Enter the SteelSeries Rival 500 MMO/MOBA Mouse, a competitive mouse with a robust design and buttons galore. The Rival 500 is a gaming mouse with a design made for comfort, precision, and customization. With a 15-button layout, you can have faster reaction times to fit any situational needs, such as in boss encounters or to perform top-notch macros during a heated team fight against your foes. The size and weight gives the Rival 500 a unique feel that once accustomed to it, you can take the fight anywhere! It also includes tactile alerts to fit any situation of any game, to help make you react on the fly whether your cooldown is ready or your resources are low.

The Rival 500‘s design may take a while for some to get used to, due it’s rather large size. It at least felt perfect for my hands and I did appreciate the thumb rest. The grid-layout for the buttons are perfectly spaced around the thumb and the sides. SteelsSeries ingeniously allowed the tactile alerts on the buttons, through their SteelSeries Engine 3 software, so you can set a rumble for different situations to whatever game you are playing.

I greatly appreciate the generous amount of buttons because it mades playing World of Warcraft with all my keybinds more streamlined and I didn’t have to panic when I got below 50% health. The cool illumination given off by the Rival 500 is pretty hypnotic with every click, and is also customizable though the SteelSeries Engine 3. With how this mouse is designed, I did love how I was able to play Diablo III with one hand as I try to grab my cat from jumping on my desk and causing mischief.

I feel that the Rival 500 is a very great companion for taking to battle. The left/right click buttons feel great and durable for most gaming genres. With it’s state-of-the-art Pixart 3360 optic sensor, which can go up to 16,000 CPI, the mouse also works well for FPS games. The settings and sensitivity of the mouse works perfectly for Overwatch, as I felt like my sleight of hand movements were read perfectly by the Rival 500. When I played DOTA 2 or Heroes of the Storm, I was able to react to any heated situation and get in/out of the fight a lot faster thanks to all the button layouts and combinations.

SteelSeries more-than-capable gaming mouse is exactly what you get from out of the box: robust, customizable, and comfortable. The SteelSeries Rival 500 mouse is available now on their website. For the $79.99 price tag, it clearly does everything and more for a gamers’ needs. See you in the battlefield.
