ROCCAT Kova AIMO Gaming Mouse Review
Not so generic budget-friendly gaming mouse

Here we are again with another exciting gaming peripheral from our German friends over at ROCCAT. Today we are talking about the Kova AIMO Gaming Mouse which is more than meets the eye. No, it’s not a transformer but it’s far more than a generic, budget-friendly gaming mouse.

Available in both Black and White

The ROCCAT Kova AIMO Gaming Mouse is a comfortable, ambidextrous mouse for all gamers. The Kova AIMO‘s simple, symmetrical style isn’t much to look at nor is it very gimmicky BUT it does have some cool features. At first glance, you may not notice the two “quick-fire” buttons on the outside of the M1 and M2 buttons. Incredibly handy when you want to truly customize your gaming experience. While there are two additional buttons at your fingertips, this mouse is designed to prevent mis-clicks. The buttons are raised to prevent you from being a knucklehead and clicking the wrong button that may cause you to lose the game. We are here to improve your gaming experience, not to take anything away from it and that is exactly what ROCCAT is doing.

Aside from the two bonus “quick-fire” buttons, you do have two additional buttons on both sides of the Kova AIMO to configure to your liking using the ROCCAT Swarm software.

Customize your gaming with the ROCCAT Swarm Gaming Software

With most gaming peripherals these days you need to download the proper gaming software to unlock the ability to customize your products and ROCCAT is no different. You do need to download the ROCCAT Swarm software from the ROCCAT site and it does require a system restart upon installation so save your work before continuing. Once your computer restarts you will also have to download the necessary files for your device which it does auto detect. I do not mind this software at all, and I actually prefer it over the current Logitech gaming software which they released recently. The SWARM gaming software and easy to navigate allowing you to create and edit profiles that are specific to you and the games you play. You’ll be able to fine-tune the DPI (up to 7k), assign each of the keys to do whatever you want them to do and control the RGB lighting on the ROCCAT Kova AIMO.

Pro-Optic Sensor R6 with up to 7000dpi

ROCCAT has included a Pro-Optic Sensor R6 which allows you to have a DPI of up to 7k. While it isn’t nearly as high as the newer Logitech gaming mouses, I still find it unnecessary to ever go that high anyway. I’m sure there is a reason why, yet I’ve yet to discover it myself. The Kova AIMO does have a polling rate of 1000Hz which means it checks for a signal every .001 seconds. Lightning fast. With a weight of only 99g it is relatively light, especially for a mouse with RGB lighting included.

Whether you use it for gaming or for the office you’ll find it comfortable and shouldn’t experience any fatigue moving the mouse around hours on end. The Kova AIMO does have a unique feel which does take some getting used to due to the “quick-fire” buttons but they are not intrusive by any means. For those of you who haven’t used an ambidextrous mouse, or at least aren’t used to one you may find yourself taking a little longer to get used to it as it isn’t contoured to fit ergonomically in your right hand. By no means is this a fault of ROCCAT, just a truth that comes with making a Universal gaming mouse.

All in the ROCCAT family

All in all, I’m a huge fan of this mouse and the most exciting thing about the ROCCAT Kova AIMO is the price. You can pick it up right now for $49.99. If you order it from Best Buy at the time of this article you can save an additional $10 by clicking here. For $50 it’s a steal, but $40 it’s a damn robbery if you ask me. It is a unique mouse, and ROCCAT may be underselling themselves at this price-point.
