The SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is a sleek piece of gaming hardware that is a joy to use. SteelSeries took a risk by using custom switches for their keys in lieu of Cherry switches, an aspect many PC gamers look for first when considering their gaming keyboard choice. They will almost always flock to mechanical and then go for the Cherry switch (blue, red, brown, etc.) that matches their ideal key-press feel. The QS1 switches here don’t disappoint. Actuation and throw distance is lessened by design. The time it took for me to get accustomed to the Apex M800 in that regard really didn’t feel long at all.
I appreciate the smaller form factor with the Apex M800, as it “keeps it simple” while delivering everything you’d want or expect in a keyboard that will run you $199. With the SteelSeries Engine, your customization options are almost endless and I couldn’t think of anything that I felt was missing from the standard gaming keyboard of today. Most importantly, it was both easy and comfortable to use. If someone was in the market for a highly customizable mechanical gaming keyboard, I would definitely suggest that they first look into SteelSeries Apex M800 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard.

I’m not sure if it’s a limited time offer or not, but SteelSeries is also providing free wrist-rests with purchase of Apex M800 and some of their other keyboards. Something to consider if that was an aspect you felt was missing in the review!
